1. La Ventana and Los Barriles, Baja California Sur, Mexico

Nestled on the eastern coast of Baja California Sur, La Ventana and Los Barriles are two of Mexico’s premier kiteboarding and winging locations. As the northern hemisphere heads into winter, these spots come alive with steady winds and near-perfect conditions. It’s no surprise that half of Hood River (including some of the Cascade Crew) makes the trek each year to spend their winters down south.

La Ventana: Known for its reliable winds, La Ventana offers a wide range of conditions suitable for all levels. The wind typically blows between 15-25 knots, providing ample opportunities for water enthusiasts of all kinds. The gorgeous waters and stunning backdrop of the Sierra de la Laguna mountains make it a visual feast as well. Plus, the local community is incredibly welcoming, there are plenty of options for rentals and lessons, and the night-life is hard to beat!

Los Barriles: Just a short drive from La Ventana, Los Barriles is another gem. Here, the wind conditions are similarly favorable, but the vibe is a bit more laid-back. The area is known for its expansive beaches and consistent winds, perfect for those who enjoy long sessions on the water. Whether you’re into jumping or cruising, Los Barriles has you covered. 2. Hatteras, North Carolina

Hatteras Island, located on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, is a kiter and winger’s paradise known for its diverse conditions and scenic beauty. Fall and winter, though less crowded, are some of the prime times to visit the island.
